Solar energy is an extremely promising alternative energy. This is why solar solutions are a viable option for meeting the challenges of expanding the energy supply while reducing environmental impacts and achieving a more appealing cost-benefit ratio. This sector is regulated by INMETRO’s Ordinance 352 of 07/06/2012 (Compliance Assessment Requirements) which requires since July 2014 compliance testing and certification ofmanufactured products imported into Brazil.

INMETRO Accreditation for TÜV Rheinland Brasil

Always mindful of advances in the energy market, TÜV Rheinland Brasil has been accredited by INMETRO to provide the compulsory certification of solar water heating systems consisting of a closed thermal reservoir of up to 1000 liters, associated systems and solar collectors for bathrooms and pools. “We conduct an audit at the factory to evaluate the manufacturing quality system and we obtain sealed samples to be sent to the laboratory for testing. We evaluate all documentation and, if approved, we issue the compliance certification”, explains Robynson Molinari, Certification Manager at TÜV Rheinland Brasil. He also adds that certification renewal procedures involving a new audit and additional samples are conducted annually.

Ensuring Safety and Energy Performance of Solar Water Heating Systems

Product-specific steps focusing on safety, the environment and the product’s energy performance must be completed to obtain the Compliance Certification. The tests are described in INMETRO Ordinance 301 of June 14, 2012 (Technical Quality Regulations), which also defines the technical requirements and domestic and international standards to be met. “The solar heater market has grown at an average annual rate of 15% over the last five years. This certification provides consumers with greater confidence, primarily with respect to durability, since the product’s resistance to adverse weather conditions is tested as well”, Molinari concludes.
